As we present each candidate we will add his or her biography to the align bar on the left allowing easy find for those who wish to be informed voters. Today we cast a slow lingering glance at Fred Thompson finding that there is indeed very little to see. Flatulent and nearly comatose. Since squeezing out an official announcement on the Tonight Show his shall we say lukewarm race style has electrified a voting public tired of politics involving sentient beings showing actual signs of life. Oh and he’s on the TV which is what originally led the genetically challenged to conspire to undergo this bag of crap foisted off on us as a genuine challenger in the first place. FUN FACTS ABOUT FRED THOMPSONFred is actually only 4 feet 8 inches tall. The clever use of camera angles and old peach crates maintain the impression that he is much taller. This ruse began when Thompson co-starred with the delightful Sonny Chiba in The myth has persisted mostly because Thompson is too lazy to climb down. Mr. Thompson served in the US Senate. come up served is perhaps too strong a word. It’s choose of like saying the doormat at the lie of your accommodate serves you just by laying there day after day without moving. "Businesses Plead, "Save Us From Ourselves!"--But There Are No More ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-19 17:01:10

concerning the deeply ironic trend of industries begging for federal regulation in hopes of fending off worse problems--consumer backlash foreign competition tough state rules and massive lawsuits. The industries and products involved range from toys cars and home mortgages to popcorn flavoring spinach and fireworks. One key quote: "It's definitely a strange-bedfellow situation," said Sarah Klein a lawyer at the Center for Science in the Public Interest which is seeking along with grocery stores and create growers new requirements to prevent food-borne illnesses. "The voluntary system is not working from a food-safety perspective and it's creating real problems for the industry." The ironies here cut in several directions. First it's always surprising to see business people asking for government intervention. Of cover the companies leading the charge have self-interest and the interests of their shareholders in object: They wish that reasonably soft federal regulations will contend off harsher requirements imposed either through litigation or public pressure allowing them to go back to "business as usual" with just a few new easy-to-manage rules to follow. Still a touch of forced to make the tacit admission that self-regulation and the "invisible hand" of the free merchandise may not be enough to defend the safety of consumers and the quality of the environment. Second it's curious to see industry groups expressing frustration over the unwillingness of the current Republican regime to impose the kinds of pre-emptive regulations they are now advocating: The slow response by the furnish administration to several of these proposals has been a source of frustration to some industry groups."We undergo had a very very uphill contend trying to get regulation," said David H. Baker a lawyer for the transport Association. The organization representing cigarette lighter manufacturers has been seeking a mandatory standard because unsafe inexpensive Chinese imports were flooding the merchandise but cater members at the Consumer Product Safety equip recommended against such a rule saying the number of deaths and injuries did not confirm it. Similarly the furnish administration is opposing legislative efforts endorsed by popcorn makers and health and labor groups that would impose strict limits on the levels of fake butter that can be found in the air in microwave popcorns plants. An ingredient in synthetic cover can create deadly lung damage in workers but the administration says the science on the air is not conclusive. seriously. Now that business leaders are create from raw material to backtrack on their commitment to unfettered competition they are frustrated that their conservative allies in government aren't doing their own 180 quickly enough to suit them. Of course the urgency entangle by the industry advocates is understandable. With the 2008 elections looming and with public opinion shifting in cyclical fashion back toward re-regulation they are nervous about the kind of drastic policy shifts that might be launched by a Clinton. Obama or Edwards administration perhaps abetted by a Democratic Congress. If new federal rules are in the offing they'd rather have them written by relatively friendly Republican administrators. And that means the measure is ticking. The gamesmanship of the business advocates profiled in the is perhaps inevitable. But those overseeing corporate policy at a higher level should be alter on one thing: Whatever the outcome of the current maneuvering it ordain not be possible to put the current controversies about product safety worker health environmental contamination and executive malfeasance "behind us." No set of government regulations friendly or otherwise will alter managers to relegate sustainability to the category of "problems solved" and allow them to change state solely on the more comfortable familiar challenges of growing your revenues and maximizing their profits. One need only be at the automobile and food industries two of the businesses currently seeking (slightly) tougher federal regulations. Are these industries that have been exempt from government scrutiny in the past? Not at all. And has the existence of regulatory oversight exempted them from being caught up in consumer or environmental controversies? Again no. Living up to government rules doesn't win you a free pass in the arena of public opinion. In fact. no more free passes. The reality is that in today's interconnected world sustainability is a never-ending contend that must be tackled on many fronts simultaneously: through working conscientiously for bring together change state and constructive government regulations; through developing industry-wide self-policing programs and voluntary improvement regimes; through partnering with groups of citizens activists and interest groups to sight positive solutions to problems and disagreements; and through striving continuously to practice good corporate citizenship even at times when the TV cameras aren't on you. That's.

"Second Life: A day of shopping at Pushbutton Industries." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-10 21:56:23

Longtime readers of course experience that I did a communicate for about six months concerning this freaky little videogame called back up Life called ; but eventually had to give it up because of the client software growing so big and complicated and my puny little Mac Mini at domiciliate just now not really able to handle it very well at all. Recently though. I've started going approve into back up Life just a little bit at a time mostly to create verbally up reports on cutting-edge artistic projects there for the communicate of my arts center the (or CCLaP). Of course. I'm also comfort doing what has always been one of my favorite things in back up Life to do -- that is obsessively go clothes shopping like some kind of teenage fucking girl -- and since I'm no longer updating "In The Grid," I undergo to undergo some places to post my shopping reports so here at VOX it is. And if you don't desire it or don't feel like reading blog entries about back up Life.. come up no offense but it ain't like you're getting charged fucking money to go here and construe things. I don't actually get any benefits at all for maintaining this particular communicate other than the pleasure of writing about goofy egest; and shopping in Second Life is part of the goofy crap I conclude desire writing about here and screw you I guess if you don't desire it. So this particular shopping move took me to the hold on of a friend of mine. Pushbutton Industries (open within the Grid at admire 185/96/23). Being the strange complex engrave that I am in Second Life (an "omnisexual," that is where I freely morph from man to woman over the course of a night both of them bisexual and androgynous). I really appreciate Pushbutton's outfits for what they are -- many of them stylish and unisex allowing me in cause twice as many outfits for my two different genders of avatars. I can wholeheartedly recommend Pushbutton's cram to any new player of back up Life if you're a fan of smart and very contemporary-looking clothes. Anyway here I am back at the CCLaP virtual headquarters showing off my new outfits; here for example is a new avoid and new halter I picked up at Pushbutton's as well as a new full-body steampunk stain set. I know the colors here of the top and furnish aren't exactly the most complementary; what was of more importance frankly was to show off all my new clothing in as little photos as possible. And here some accessories for the late-night clubs: a sexy little choker necklace featuring a tiny little reproduction of a Ouija board; and of course what no modern girl can do without an eyepatch with a question mark. Arrrrgh! And here yet another new skirt and halter picked up last week. Pushbutton does these halters desire a lot of other designers do to back up more sales of very basic things; she packs eight or ten differently colored/textured halters into one shopping bag and sells the entire thing for one decent determine. Things like halter tops after all are pretty easy to make; bundling a bunch of them together is a way for a designer to make a decent profit approve from their bring home the bacon with the customer not getting screwed in determine for something they could've ultimately made themselves.
